'Thomas' is feeling blue in engine shed

The National Railway Museum (NRM) is holding its annual Day out with Thomas event starting 9th February 2008. Visitors will have an opportunity to see all their favourite characters from Thomas and Friends and even get to see the Fat Controller give Thomas a stern telling off - for going off the rails.

Thomas’ is to remain in the NRM’s ‘Engine Shed’ while his little green friend Percy pulls steam rides as a punishment for his latest scrape – crashing through the Station Master’s window while he and his family were sitting at breakfast.

Naughty ‘Thomas’ went literally off the rails when he set off down the track without his driver. Thanks to his punishment for his mischief, the cheeky blue engine will be more accessible than ever to his young fans at the NRM, with visitors being able to see ‘Thomas’ on static display in the ‘Engine Shed.’

Visitors to the February half-term event, (9-24 February 2008), will also enjoy the chance to ride behind ‘Percy’ with ‘Annie and Clarabel’ or on the ‘Troublesome Trucks’ behind ‘Diesel.’ As ever, ‘Sir Topham Hatt, the Fat Controller’ will be keeping a watchful eye on the proceedings.

As well as the train rides, there will be five workshops available to children attending the event, including flag, badge and mask making, as well as designing a ‘Thomas’ postcard and railway ticket.

In addition, the ‘Thomas’ stories will be brought to life with theatre performances and visitors will also enjoy face painting and interactive games.

Jim Lowe, Visitor Operations Manager at the NRM, said:

“This year’s ‘Day Out with Thomas’ event offers the ideal opportunity for children to get up close to ‘Thomas’- particularly important for any youngsters with mobility problems. Our jam-packed fortnight of activities teaches children a range of vital skills, from design to rail safety and we guarantee ‘Thomas’ will be the only one feeling blue during this day of fun for all the family!”
