Press OfficePerfect gift launched for Scotsman enthusiastFor the man who’s got everything, there has already been the chance to wear Flying Scotsman cufflinks on his sleeve, but now the National Railway Museum (NRM) can offer him the chance to hang part of the nation’s favourite locomotive on his wall! The NRM has teamed up again with TMB Art Metal to produce a limited number of unique Flying Scotsman nameplates, cast using original metal from the legendary locomotive’s firebox. These nameplates are a definite must-have for any rail enthusiast and make the perfect gift! The metal being used to create the nameplates has been removed as part of the ongoing project to restore Flying Scotsman to her former glory and full working operation.
The company leading the innovative project is TMB Art Metal, a specialist company dedicated to producing high-quality luxury ‘provenance’ items depicting iconic subjects from the locomotive, automotive, aeronautic and maritime arenas. The nameplates are mounted on a solid oak backboard and are accompanied by a certificate guaranteeing that they are made from authentic Flying Scotsman metal. A limited edition of 80 will be made to order to mark the 80th anniversary of the first non-stop ‘Flying Scotsman’ service from London to Edinburgh, which started in 1928. They follow on from a highly popular series of cufflinks launched last year, which are still available, and are set to whet the appetite for a series of incredible fine-art sculptures of the much-loved locomotive, due to be launched in September this year. All the Museum’s profits from the sale of the items will be ploughed into the ‘Keep Scotsman Steaming Appeal’ to support the restoration of this historic locomotive – which has already topped over £1 million. The nameplates will be made to order and retail at £1995. For more information please visit www.tmbartmetal.com or call 0208 810 9997. Sue Fisher, Head of Development - North, for the NRM, said: “The nameplates really are the gift for the man who has everything and we hope that they will prove as popular as the cufflinks – for which demand remains high. Not only will fans of the locomotive be able to own their very own piece of Scotsman but their purchase will also help raise funds for the ‘Keep Scotsman Steaming Appeal’.” Chris Bennett, of TMB Art Metal, added: “We are privileged to be able to work with original materials from the iconic Flying Scotsman locomotive. The nameplates will make a fantastic must-have for those looking for something a little bit different. There are only 80 available so anyone wanting to get their hands on one needs to move fast!
