Press OfficeNorwich Union Yokshire Wheel set to spin its way into world recordsThe world’s largest railway museum is about to make a bid to host world's largest Wheel of Fortune. Thursday 12 April will mark the Norwich Union Yorkshire Wheel’s first birthday at the National Railway Museum in York. And from that day on, one special ‘golden ticket’ will be given out free to one random Museum visitor every day for 42 days…one to represent each of the 42 climate-controlled pods! The lucky visitors that receive a golden ticket will automatically win five free family tickets for the Yorkshire Wheel. Their pod will also take part in the bid to establish a new world record for the biggest ever Wheel of Fortune. The event will take place on Thursday 24 May (weather permitting) when the 60-metre Yorkshire Wheel will be spun much faster than the normal ride speed and stopped randomly in true Wheel of Fortune style. The pods which stop where X marks the spot will win a range of great treats, including a first prize of a trip for two to London, courtesy of York mini-break specialists Superbreak, including tickets for the must-see West End blockbuster, The Sound of Music. Other prizes include Hornby Flying Scotsman train sets, PC Train simulator games, a VIP champagne ride on the Yorkshire Wheel and a £50 gift voucher for the National Railway Museum (NRM) giftshop. Judith Whitaker, Head of Commercial Development for the NRM, said: “We wanted the Yorkshire Wheel's first birthday celebrations to be something very different and great fun, and this should certainly be both of those things. The advantage our wheel has over others is that it can spin faster and be stopped randomly - without anyone in the pods of course. This makes it great for a wheel of fortune event and, at 60 metres high, we don't think there has ever been one bigger!" 11 April 2007 |
