Press OfficeYorkshire Wheel sets to spin its way to new world recordWhen it comes to big, bold and brassy nowhere in the world does it better than Las Vegas, home to the original Wheel of Fortune. But this week Vegas is in for a run for its money as the Yorkshire Wheel is set to spin its way to a new world record! As part of the Yorkshire Wheel’s first birthday celebrations, a glitzy Viva Las Vegas style extravaganza will take place with guest star and performance from Elvis (alias Heath Ashton). The Yorkshire Wheel celebrated its first birthday on 12 April and from that day on one special ‘golden ticket’ has been given out to a lucky National Railway Museum (NRM) visitor each day. These ‘golden tickets’ automatically put the winners into the Wheel of Fortune prize draw. The event, which is taking place this Thursday morning (24 May) will see Elvis spin the Wheel at top speed and stop it randomly selecting a winner, where ‘x marks the spot’. As well as performing Viva Las Vegas, Elvis will also act as one of two independent judges - the second being David Croft, the General Manager from the Gala Casino in Leeds. A great range of prizes are up for grabs including a first class trip for two to London, courtesy of York’s mini-break specialists Superbreak. Other prizes include Hornby Flying Scotsman train sets, a family ticket (two adults and two children) for The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe at West Yorkshire Playhouse, PC train simulator games, a VIP champagne ride on the Wheel and a £50 gift voucher for the NRM shop. As well as being the star of the show at the Yorkshire Wheel’s world record attempt, Elvis (Heath Ashton) will also be staring in the Grand Opera House’s ‘One Night of Elvis’ event. The show will take place this Saturday (26 May) as part of an exciting nationwide contest to find Elvis UK 07. Heath Ashton was voted GMTV's ‘Britain’s Best Elvis’ and is also a winner of Granada TV’s ‘Stars in their Eyes’. Andrew Scott, Director of the National Railway Museum, said: “The Yorkshire Wheel has once again provided us with a fun and exciting opportunity. There is currently no record for the biggest Wheel of Fortune and we are really excited that the Yorkshire Wheel could achieve this.” Celestine Dubruel, Press Officer at the Grand Opera House, added: “The Grand Opera House is delighted to be a part of this exciting event and who knows we might encourage some local talent to come along to our ‘Search for Elvis’ on 26th May.” 22 May 2007 |
