Press Office'Sir Topham Hatt, The Fat Controller' makes a fishy discovery‘Sir Topham Hatt, the Fat Controller’ made a fishy discovery today after ‘Thomas’ was in the wrong plaice at the wrong time! A number of fish were discovered in ‘Thomas’s’ tank when he started to feel a pain in his boiler after having filled his tank with water from the river. His fireman and driver had to fill his tank from the River Ouse when the local water tower was out of order. This all happened whilst ‘Thomas’ was on his way to his annual appearance at the National Railway Museum’s (NRM) ‘Day Out with Thomas’ event. Luckily, once ‘Thomas’ arrived at the NRM, ‘Sir Topham Hatt, the Fat Controller’ found a fishing rod and managed to catch the fish, leaving ‘Thomas’ fit and healthy to take part in his train rides planned for the weekend!
Visitors will be invited to join ‘Thomas’ at the annual event starring the Number 1 blue engine and ‘Sir Topham Hatt, the Fat Controller’ as well as ‘Fergus’ and ‘Daisy’. There will also be the chance to ride behind ‘Thomas’ with ‘Annie and Clarabel’ or on the ‘Troublesome Trucks’ behind ‘Diesel’. As well as the train rides, there will be the chance for children to have fun in the activity zone with face painting, badge making, mask making, and ‘Sir Topham Hatt, the Fat Controller’ hat making as well as designing a ‘Thomas’ postcard and railway ticket. Nina Baptiste, Education and Learning Manager at the NRM, said: “Our ‘Day Out With Thomas’ event will this year be educational as well as fun, for all our visitors. The event offers us the perfect opportunity to teach children a range of skills from more fun things such as art and design to more important issues such as rail safety. We feel this year’s event will be a superb experience for all who visit!” 5 May 2007
