Santa is steaming into town!

Local children will have to be on their best behaviour earlier than normal this year… The National Railway Museum (NRM) is offering a chance to meet the man in the big red suit well in advance of his annual global sleigh ride.

Santa Claus is coming to town on 24th and 25th of November for the National Railway Museum’s (NRM) popular Old Time Christmas event, and he wants a head start on finding out who’s been naughty or nice.

To help Santa decide, youngsters are being invited to write to him via his friends at the NRM, telling him what they would like for Christmas and why they deserve a VIP trip to see him. One lucky child will get the chance to meet Santa and his elves in his temporary home at the museum, and will be given a special present for their winning letter. The York Railway Institute Brass Band will also play their favourite carol during the festive fun on the 24th.

The winner’s family will also get the opportunity to celebrate the season in style, with traditional yuletide entertainment on offer in the museum’s Great Hall. This will include performances straight from the Big Top with clowns and other circus-style entertainers plus musical mayhem with puppets. Santa will be appearing to the rest of the crowds at 15.50pm and all children will receive a free gift.

Catherine Farrell, Press Officer at the NRM, said:

“Santa frequently pays a flying visit to the NRM for Old Time Christmas. After his abseiling stunt last year, he’s decided to play it safe and asked us to help him find some well-behaved children in the area. Why not get your little ones to put pen to paper a little early this year and enjoy a special treat for all the family?”

Parents should bring their youngster’s letters to the National Railway Museum, where a special ”Santa’s post box” has been set up by the Yorkshire Wheel or alternatively post entries to Santa’s Little Helper, c/o National Railway Museum, Leeman Road, York, YO26 4XJ. The closing date is before noon on Friday November 23rd.
