Museum celebrates model sales

Staff at the National Railway Museum (NRM) are celebrating after the first 500 working models of a national collection locomotive sold in just 8 days.

With rock legend Rod Stewart revealing to the world last month that leggy blondes are not the only models he’s interested in, his fellow model railway fans went loco for a special commemorative version of an exclusive new model on the market – the French blue Deltic prototype.

Produced for the NRM by model manufacturers Bachmann Europe Plc, the 00 gauge model, retailing at £140.00 + P&P is now set to jet all over the world with pre orders coming in from as far afield as the US, Canada and Australia.

Judith Whittaker, Head of Commercial Development at the NRM, said:

”The commemorative model was due to hit our shelves in December but the NRM retail team have already pre-sold all 500 of the Special Limited Edition. It’s the perfect Christmas present for anyone with a love of railways, so understandably it has proved extremely popular. However, collectors who have missed out on the first 500 need not fear, there are still standard Limited Edition Deltic models available from January – although they are selling incredibly fast!”

Given the recent news that Rod Stewart is a keen collector, the Deltic could already be destined for his Christmas stocking and with celebrities such as Phil Collins and Lionel Richie also reported to have dabbled in the hobby, this historic new model is the coolest Christmas gift on the block.

The 2500 Limited Edition standard sets are available now for pre-order exclusively from the NRM and retail at £95.00 + P&P.(subject to availability).

Judith concluded:

“Each purchase supports the work of the NRM and we hope that if this project continues to prove a massive success we will be adding more to the National Collection in miniature.”
