Scotsman Author to make flying visit to National Railway Museum

Railway enthusiasts are sure to get steamed up about the latest event at the National Railway Museum (NRM) in York

Author Andrew Roden will be on hand in the Great Hall of the museum Thursday, 25th October, to sign copies of Flying Scotsman, his book about the history of NRM’s flagship locomotive.

Flying Scotsman tells the story of Nigel Gresley’s elegant masterpiece, from her glory days between the wars, to her rescue for the nation by the NRM, after an urgent appeal raised millions.

Fans of the book, which was largely written using information supplied by the experts at the NRM, will be able to get their copy signed in a morning session between 10.30am and 11.30am, and an afternoon session running from 1.30pm to 2.30pm. Each slot will be followed by a 15 minute question and answer session in which steam aficionados are offered the chance to ask Andrew specific facts about the history of the Scotsman and why he decided to write a book about the world’s most famous train.

Scotsman supporters will also have the opportunity to see the infamous locomotive as she undergoes an overhaul in the NRM workshop, with the aim of being back in steam in 2009.

Visitor Operations Manager Jim Lowe, said:

“Scotsman fans should make tracks to the NRM this half term so they can purchase a unique souvenir of their day here - a signed copy of Andrew’s book.”

Andrew added:

“My book wouldn’t have made it to print without the specialist information I received from the railway experts at the NRM, which makes my book signing at the museum all the more special. I’m really looking forward to fielding visitor’s questions about Flying Scotsman and my work. “
