The Yorkshire Wheel

The Yorkshire Wheel, located at the National Railway Museum, offers a unique view of the historic city of York, including the world famous Minster and the River Ouse.

Reaching 60 metres (200 feet) into the sky, the Yorkshire Wheel comprises a total of 42 climate-controlled pods accommodating up to 8 people at a time. A luxury VIP gondola, sporting leather armchairs and a glass floor, offers something extra for special occasions.

Located adjacent to the Great Hall the construction of the Wheel took 11 days following the arrival of its component parts at the Museum’s Leeman Road site. It opened to the public on 12 April 2006 and will be at the NRM for up to three years.

The National Railway Museum is open daily from 10:00 to 18:00. The Wheel’s summer opening hours are daily from 10:00 to 21:00 and the ride lasts about 13 minutes including 3-4 rotations of the Wheel. Special VIP bookings last longer.

The National Railway Museum is open daily except 24, 25 and 26 December and admission to the museum is free. Admission prices apply for The Yorkshire Wheel.
