How to get here

In May/June, some areas and vehicles will be only open to Railfest ticket holders, or closed as we prepare for the event:

  • 28 May - 15 June: car parks closed
  • 28 May - 15 June: South Yard closed, or only open to Railfest ticket holders
  • 28 May - 15 June: some locos only accessible to Railfest ticket holders
  • 2 - 10 June: Station Hall opens late at 12pm

By rail

The Museum is only a few minutes' walk from York station and the route is signposted:

  • Turn left outside the front of the station
  • Pass the Royal York Hotel and turn left into Leeman Road
  • Continue through the tunnel — the Museum is straight ahead.

There is also a direct route to the Museum via the station footbridge (not suitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs).

By bus

The Rawcliffe Park & Ride bus picks up and drops off just outside the Museum. First Group Park and Ride

By car

There is no car parking available 28 May - 15 June due to Railfest. There is a drop-off point at the turning circle (in front of our Leeman Road entrance).

The Museum is clearly signposted from all approaches to the city. Our visitor car park is on Leeman Road (£9 per day). Accessible parking is available outside our City Entrance. Both car parks are indicated in blue on the map above-right.

Private parking - competitive rates

Competitive rates for private parking are also available on monthly, quarterly or annual agreements for groups and individuals. The car park is ideally situated, five minutes' walk from York Railway Station and ten minutes from York City Centre. Spaces are available 24 hours per day, seven days a week; or Monday to Friday. On foot

It's a 10 minute walk to the Museum from the centre of town, and the route is well signposted. But for a quicker, more convenient route from the city centre why not catch our...

Road Train

Travel straight to the Museum's door from Duncombe Place (next to York Minster). Trips leave the Museum on the hour and half hour from 11:00* to 16:00, and depart from Duncombe Place every 30 minutes from 11:15 to 16:15.
