Heritage Tours

Discover the fascinating history of the railway industry, its growth and decline, and the impact of railways on towns and their people.

Explore historic maps and photographs from our collection, which offer intriguing snapshots of changes to heritage buildings and the town of Shildon.

Investigate the fabric of former railway buildings and learn more about the fantastic archaeological evidence they offer for the story of railways.

Tours will depart from the Collection Building at 11.00 and 14.00 daily during the Heritage Open Days.


Access to Soho Shed

Volunteers from Friends of the National Railway Museum North East will welcome visitors to Soho Shed, where you can take a closer look at the many interesting objects on display, including the Shildon Works bell and Hackworth plug wheel.

The museum reserves the right to make changes to the advertised programme.
