Why do children love trains so much? Our immersive and playful new exhibition explores childhood fascination with trains and railways.
Come and explore the wonderful world of railways, big and small in our latest exhibition Playing Trains. Generations of children have grown up with railway toys, but what makes the love of them so enduring?
Playing Trains lets children decide for themselves. The exhibition is a place for children, not just about them, and is filled with models, toys to play with and books to read. We've also commissioned acclaimed children's author Sam Usher who has filled the gallery (and this page!) with fun and exciting illustrations.
On top of this the gallery is packed with some fantastic objects from our collection, including books, whistles and toy trains ranging from much loved wooden push along ones to modern plastic trains. Adults will have just as much fun spotting their favourites!
