Fun for all the family ahead of Flying Scotsman’s official return, including craft activities, talks and tours, bagpipes, a Flying Scotsman trail and exciting steam rides (not on Flying Scotsman)* in South Yard. And there's extended opening all week: 9:30 - 18:00.

Bagpipes

A bagpipe performance in celebration of Scotsman's appearance. 10:00 - 10:15 at the entrance, then 11:00, 12:00, 13:00 and 15:00 at back of Great Hall.

Steam rides*

Take a ride behind 'Teddy', a steam locomotive. Daily, 10.30 – 13:00, 13:30 – 16:00. No need to book, just turn up.

Adventure playground

Let off steam on our slides and climbing frames.

Simulator*

Experience breathtaking rides on our rocking and rolling Simulator.

Science shows and storytelling

Our science extravaganza, From Rocket To Bullet, plus spellbinding storytelling sessions for little ones.

Miniature Railway*

All aboard! Take a trip on our 7¼“ gauge train in the South Yard. The miniature railway runs every day, weather permitting.

Road train*

Take advantage of our 2 for 1 offer and ride the Road Train from Duncombe Place (by York Minster) to the Museum. Road Train timetable
