Description: The Soho railway works, Shildon, County Durham, about 1925. This former warehouse building dating from the 1820s was acquired by the North Eastern Railway in 1863. It was used as a paintshop in the 1870s and has an underfloor heating system to help the paint dry. After it had fallen out of use for railway operating purposes it was adapted for use as a gymnasium and band practice room for railway staff. Acquired in the 1970s by Sedgefield District Council it is now part of Locomotion, the National Railway Museum at Shildon.
