Description: Midland Railway director's trip through Totley Tunnel, Derbyshire, 10 August 1893. At this time the tunnel had just been completed although it was not fully opened yet. The tunnel is 3 miles long and took 5 years to build. Navvies were brought into the village of Grindleford to build the tunnel. Because of the poor living conditions they had to endure diseases were rife, and many workers died from smallpox in 1893.
