What's new at the National Railway Museum

It might seem a long way off, but the National Railway Museum is encouraging people to book their Christmas parties now after the sell-out success of 2007! (External link).
This festive season visitors to the NRM will be given the opportunity to object handling, storytelling and a chance to create a glittering Christmas Bug, make a special family visit to the museum this Christmas.
We are sorry to announce that there has been a change of plan and Tornado will not be on display at the NRM in November. We will make further announcements about Tornado’s visit to the NRM when future dates are finalised.
The Yorkshire Wheel ceased trading at the National Railway Museum on 2 November 2008. We would like to thank all our customers over the past two and a half years. All proceeds from the Yorkshire Wheel have helped to support the work of the National Railway Museum and our ongoing conservation projects. We hope to make announcements about exciting new ventures at the Museum soon.

New Model Army is a rock band with a world-wide fan base. During 30 years of recording and touring the travel experiences of the band have inspired many of their songs. In this exhibition the band members talk about traveling by train: the places they have been, the view from the windows and the people they have met.
A fabulous new set of Flying Scotsman cufflinks have been launched. They are the perfect Christmas gift and feature Scotsman’s firebox door with the locomotive’s famous number 4472. They have been cast using original bronze from one of Flying Scotsman’s 1948 bogie axle boxes.
At Search Engine, the National Railway Museum’s brand new Library and Archive Centre, we are opening up the Museum's hidden gems to the public. Behind the scenes at the NRM lies a vast archive holding all the NRM’s accumulated knowledge about the history of the railways.
Temporary exhibitions will be available to showcase the wealth of the archive, the latest of these being 'Case Studies' running from 23 June to 19 January 2009.
Ingenious brings together images and viewpoints to create insights into science and culture. The site contains over 5000 photographs from the National Railway Museum photographic collection (external link).
The National Railway Museum in York is the largest railway museum in the world, responsible for the conservation and interpretation of the British national collection of historically significant railway vehicles and other artefacts. The Museum contains an unrivalled collection of locomotives, rolling stock, railway equipment, documents and records and offers a fantastic free day out for all the family.
The NRM has won the ‘Best Attraction’ category in the York Tourism Awards for Excellence 2008. We were particularly commended for our friendly, helpful and welcoming staff and investment in new exhibitions.
