Guidelines for your visitWe want you and your group to make the most of your visit to the National Railway Museum. We have produced a ‘Museum Visit Checklist’ and ‘Exploring Museum Objects’ documents for you to use. We hope they help to make your visit as smooth and successful as possible. Museum Visit Checklist (PDF 63KB) Travelling to the MuseumThe Museum is 540 metres (600 yards) from York railway station. Visitors travelling by train can now access the Museum via a footbridge from the railway station to the Museum’s City Entrance. However, this is not suitable for wheelchairs. Alternatively, the Museum is sign posted from the city centre and from York’s ring road for those travelling by car or coach. There is free parking for school coaches but spaces must be booked in advance. Risk AssessmentsThe Learning team are committed to providing as safe and healthy environment for our audiences as is reasonably practical. We aim to risk assess all our events and activities and provide assistance and advice for teachers/group leaders who are required to produce their own risk assessments. Risk Assessment Guidance Document for Teachers (PDF 116 KB) This document is designed to assist teachers/group leaders when completing their own risk assessment during a preliminary visit to the site. It lists areas at the National Railway Museum that may be visited and raises awareness of the possible risks. Please remember that a risk assessment document is only valid if completed by the teacher/group leader. One of our Learning team will be able to assist you with your risk assessment during your preliminary visit. Please book this service in advance.
