2010 sees the 50th anniversary of the Class 37 Diesels, and what better way to celebrate than at the National Railway Museum.

We'll have a mass start-up of diesels on Saturday morning at 10:30.

Climb on board a diesel and discover what made the Class 37s one of the country's best loved locos. There's also the chance to take a ride onboard one of our fabulous locomotives in the South Yard.

Experience the rumble of a Class 37 engine first hand with our Diesel Driver Experience (12:00-16:00 Sat, 10:45-14:45 Sun). Places are limited and issued on a first come first served basis on the day – sorry, no advance booking. £15 charge applies.

There'll be plenty of delicious food and drink, and trade and display stands in Station Hall to commemorate this special occasion.

Diesels at the event are: D6700, 37685, 37025, 37275, 37906. (Sorry, the DRS we previously mentioned won't be making it.)

You can read more about the restoration of D6700 – the first of its class to enter traffic – at the National Railway Museum blog.

Extra weekend events

As well as access to diesels, we're increasing steam engine cab access for the weekend – so there are more opportunities to climb into Hogwarts Castle, Black Five and Duchess of Hamilton. Plus our usual calendar of talks, storytelling and performances. 16 Oct diary | 17 Oct diary
