Car Park Entrance

Great Hall
Rub shoulders with railway legends, history-makers and record-breakers. The Great Hall is home to some of the greatest icons in our collection including Duchess of Hamilton and the Japanese Bullet Train.

Warehouse

The Works
Watch live engineering work in progress and see how our engines are maintained. Check out the latest conservation work on Flying Scotsman or track train movements in and out of York Station at the Integrated Electronic Control Centre (IECC).
City Entrance
The main entrance to the Museum, just a short walk from York Railway Station. This is also the pick-up and drop-off point for our Road Train.
Station Hall
Experience the heyday of the railways, from the opulence of royal travel to the holiday boom of the last century. Look inside the carriages – and enjoy a delicious meal in our restaurant surrounded by trains from a bygone era.

Learning Platform
Discover the wonders of railway science with our explosive family science show From Rocket To Bullet, or bring the little ones to our interactive storytelling session, Clickety Clack.
South Yard
Discover this outdoor activity area where younger visitors can let off steam all year round. Enjoy the railway-themed children’s play area, take a picnic, or jump aboard the miniature railway.
Art Gallery
Our new art gallery space launched in 2011, and showcases an exciting programme of temporary exhibitions from our unseen art collection, and artworks from across the world, inspired by the railways. Our art collection comprises 11,200 posters, 3061 prints and engravings, and 1049 paintings.
