Locomotion: The National Railway Museum at Shildon incorporates two main areas:
- The home and works of Timothy Hackworth, pioneer of the early railways.
- A state of the art sustainable building housing over 60 heritage rail vehicles, ranging from the original Sans Pareil locomotive from the 1829 Rainhill Trials to a fully restored snowplough.
The site has a cafeteria, gift shops, children’s play area, fully accessible toilets and a lunchroom. If you need additional support for any members of your group, please advise us when booking.
