Our awards
The National Railway Museum is committed to achieving the highest standards of excellence.
The NRM at Shildon's Pam Porter and Sharon Thorburn receive the Rough Guide To Accessible Britain Award from Ben Fogle (l) and Motability's Ian Goswell (r).
Our hard work has been recognised by winning over 20 prestigious awards since 1975. Our most recent award wins are:
White Rose Awards 2009
We were delighted to win two prestigious White Rose Awards for tourism – the fifth time in our history that we have won this coveted award.
Best Visitor Attraction
The judges commented upon our commitment to customer service and constant innovation delivering new events and exhibitions.
Best Tourism Experience
This award was received jointly with York Theatre Royal for the production of The Railway Children, staged on a real railway track at the Museum, during Summer 2009.
World Class Service
We are proud to have been awarded World Class Service accreditation in November 2009. World Class Service is an employer-led initiative dedicated to helping leisure sector organisations to deliver outstanding customer service. The accreditation has a pass mark of 80% and is based on a detailed set of service standards that look at the museum’s service environment and the service provided by its staff.
The National Railway Museum, along with the three other museums in the National Museum of Science and Industry (NMSI) group, are the first national museums to have received this accreditation.
