Decide the overall winner of our poetry competition

To mark National Poetry Day late last year, our research and archive centre – Search Engine, pictured above – launched a competition to find the next great railway poet.

We received hundreds of entries from all over the UK and overseas, so selecting the winners in each of the three age categories was a real challenge for our panel of judges. The winning entries have earned a place in the National Collection, and their writers are set to enjoy the category prize of a VIP day out here at the National Railway Museum.

The winners of the three age categories are:

5-10: Madeleine Woods (watch Madeleine read her poem)

11-16: Brydie Youngman (watch Brydie read her poem)

17+: Jayne Dwyer (watch Jayne read her poem)

Voting for the winner is now over – congratulations to Madeleine Woods who was voted our visitors' favourite, and wins the Amazon Kindle. You can read her poem – plus the two runners-up and the best of the rest – in the browser below (use the buttons to zoom in and turn the page), or download the PDF.
