Visitors chuffed by snow loco

07 Jan 2010

Visitors to the National Railway Museum (NRM) were chuffed to find a new temporary addition to the Museum’s vast collection waiting outside its main entrance - a locomotive made entirely of snow.

The miniature version of the world record breaking Mallard was built in time for opening today by 20 members of Museum staff including Helen Ashby, the Museum’s Acting Director.

There are more photos of the snow train on our Flickr group.

Helen said:

“All the staff had a fantastic time this morning building our snow locomotive – and our visitors seem to love our temporary addition to the collection. The Museum has been open throughout this week’s ‘big freeze’ and continues to offer a warm welcome to visitors able to battle the elements to get to us in York. I’d encourage anyone who is able to safely make the journey to come and see our snow loco before it melts!”

After visiting the Museum’s new snow loco, visitors can warm up inside by enjoying a rich hot chocolate and hot meals in one of the Museum’s nostalgic restaurants.
