York is celebrating a World Class first

01 Dec 2009

The National Railway Museum (NRM) in York is one of the first National Museums to be awarded World Class Service accreditation.

Along with its sister museums, the National Media Museum in Bradford and the Science Museum in London, the NRM is celebrating after being awarded the accreditation last week.  The three museums, which are all part of the National Museum of Science and Industry (NMSI) group, are the first National Museums to have received this accreditation.

World Class Service is an employer driven initiative dedicated to helping organisations in the leisure sector to deliver outstanding service.  The accreditation has a pass mark of 80 per cent and is based on a detailed set of service standards that look at the museums’ service environment and the service provided by its members of staff.

Andrew Scott, Acting Director of the National Museum of Science and Industry (NMSI), the National Railway Museum’s parent organisation, said:

“The top quality customer service we offer creates a platform from which our museums can provide life enhancing experiences to all of our customers. To be the first National Museum to achieve this accreditation is an incredible source of pride and is just recognition of the hard work of all the staff that bring our museums to life.”

Staff at the National Railway Museum are thrilled with their success and are already looking at ways to improve on their outstanding score of 85 per cent next year.
