About us
Welcome to the National Railway Museum – the largest railway museum in the world, with almost 1 million visitors per year to our sites in York and Shildon.
About us
We're home to over 300 years of history and over a million wonderful objects.
Visit us and you can marvel at iconic locomotives, watch engineering work in progress in the Workshop, browse our object-filled Warehouse, and let off steam in the outdoor play area.

Great Hall is home to some of the biggest locomotives in the National Collection. Rub shoulders with railway legends, from history-makers to record-breakers.

Explore the science, technology and history of the railways with our Learning Team. We offer a range of workshops for all ages to help teachers and learners get the most out of their visit.

Younger visitors will love letting off steam in our railway-themed outdoor play area. Plus, you can take a ride on the nearby miniature railway and enjoy the scenery.
Get a glimpse behind the scenes at the museum with our staff-written blog.
